I work at the Disney Store, both before The Childrens Place bought it and after. We still get free WDW tickets and a nice discount both at the Disney Store and The Childrens Place. I mostly work stock in the back and I still enjoy the store and Disney in general. The quality has gone up, the prices have gone down and we are the third (I think) store be be remodeled to a "Mickey Store." I think retail is tough, but when you have a cast that works together and has fun, that makes all the difference. The Disney Store is only a fun job for me, I do not have to work to support myself. If I did, I would be singing a different tune.

Oh, and I did stock, so I had to re-stock the bare shelves once the customers left (sometimes as late as 11 PM).

And as the cash register, the lines wre so long during the holidays, people got grumpy, so I went online, did Disney jokes, did Disney Trivia and asked questions, what was your favorite ______? That kept the line in order and time flew faster..

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Been there, done that, will NEVER work in retail again. And I have a couple of friends who also worked for Disney - one was even an animator - and they both HATED it. Apparently employee relations is not a huge priority.

If you want to work for AG, I would apply to work in the corporate office. I would imagine it would be a much more pleasant experience.

The junk you have to put up with working retail, and the amount you get paid for it, is just not worth it. I began my retail experiences at the age of 16. As an assistant manager about three years later for a high volume athletic retail chain, I got threatened by a woman who was trying to cheat the company by returning a pair of shoes she wore once and decided she didn't want to be seen in again. She told me she'd be waiting outside for me when the mall closed. I had security remove her. She came back the next day, after having taken a pair of scissors to the shoe and tried to tell me that it was a manufacturer's defect and she still wanted her money back! WHATEVER!

I don't believe in the "customer is always right" especially in instances like that one. Just because she was high maintenance does not mean my company should have to "eat" a pair of shoes because god forbid she get caught in them twice. I hate it when people argue with me over store policy. It's there for a reason, normally because other people abuse it.

People/customers also treat sales clerks like some sort of subhuman, uneducated, low life trash. Many people who work in retail have business degrees and have gone through extensive training provided by their company. One holiday season while working with Toys for Tots, I got a job at Toys R Us thinking that my employee discount would help the money go further when it came time to do the big toy buy right before the Marines distributed the toys to the families.

Anyway, the day after Thanksgiving this older lady, her daughter and granddaughter came in. While in my line the older woman decided to complain about something. I politely tried to assist her and when I could not, I called the manager over. While the manager went to go solve the issue, the older woman made some comment to her granddaughter about "What do you expect, they work retail." I asked her what she meant by that, then I informed her that she knew nothing about any of us and had no reason to judge. She stammered and said that she just wanted her granddaughter to aspire to do "other things in life." I told her that I would like to see her granddaughter aspire to be working in retail in order to help out a very worthwhile charitable effort during the holiday season. I also said that at least store had working employees, not people sitting on their butt collecting food stamps and using them for other things.... I could go on, but anyway.

That's my rant on the subject.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">There are members of the board who haven't posted in a while that work at WDW. One even works in the parade. Some of the jobs there may start at Florida minimum wage, but there are a lot of jobs there that pay a lot more. It depends on the experience you have and where you work. WDW employs over 50,000 people and there are always openings from the entry level jobs to the professional level. If you are interested, you can send a resume to them. Obviously, you need to live in the general area or at least in the state of Florida for a majority of the year to work there. I have a lot of friends that work there and while they like their jobs, it does come with its problems. No job is perfect.

Hi Historylover, there is a program where you work for Disney for a few times a year and still live out of state. I do not have the information on the program. But do know several people who know more about it. I am not going into the program. I have not worked for Disney for 3 yrs, but do still keep in contact with them. I did do interviews when I went down there this time, but did not accept as the money was so low for me. So just going to go as a regular guest and have fun, even without the discounts.
